White Water,
Lazy River & Delightful Lake
Adventures
It’s
springtime in the mountains, so slip into your wetsuit, grab a paddle,
climb aboard a raft and shove off down river. Get soaking wet, hang on
and paddle for dear life and scream until you’re hoarse! You’ll love
every minute of it and you’ll be telling your friends that you
survived White Water in the Adirondacks!

Three
Seasons of Rafting: Enjoy the biggest waters and best adventure in
April and May, when the snow runs out of the mountains and the ice
breaks out of the lakes. The rivers fill to capacity and above and
you’ll enjoy the ride of your life! Summer rafting from the end of
June until Columbus Day offers cooling rides and swimming in river
pools. Fall offers the fire of foliage on slow moving rafts through
gorges and the Adirondack wilderness.
S omeone with little or no
experience should take advantage of the outfitting companies that
supply almost everything you need. People in good health will have no
problem and swimming ability is a must. Depending on the time of year,
you can enjoy a mild-mannered river to a wild, heart-stopping
adventure.

The area
surrounding Green Mansions offers what is known as the Whitewater
Capital of the East; the Hudson River in North Creek/North
River, the Schroon River in Schroon Lake, the Sacandaga
River in Luzerne & the Moose River in McKeever (60 miles
West of the Hudson). Whether tubing, canoeing, kayaking or rafting,
visit us in Chestertown and enjoy the rivers and lakes of New York as
they were meant to be traveled.

Fishing
the Lake George
Wild Forest Area
The
ponds, lakes and rivers close to Green Mansions and the Lake George
area include rainbow trout, brown trout, wild brook trout, stocked
brook trout and wild lake trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass,
northern pike, and land-locked salmon. Canoe access (see below) and
state launch sites abound. Lake George offers Mossy Point and
Roger's Rock State Campground, both at the north end of Lake
George. Northwest Bay has a car-top launch and another launch
is right in the middle of Lake George Village at Million Dollar
Beach. Call for a free Adirondack Fishing Guide from the
Adirondack Regional Tourism Council 800-487-6867 or go online at

For the Canoe
and Kayak

W arren County offers 15 access sites on the
Hudson and Schroon Rivers. These facilities provide canoe
accessibility to 39 miles on the Hudson River and 20 miles on the
Schroon River. All sites provide free parking and safe access to and
from the water. Caution should always be exercised. All canoe-able
rivers are subject to variations in water level and speed of current.
Paddling on Lake George can be an intimate
experience offered only to the canoe and kayak. Miles of small bays
and crystal clear, spring fed water continue to excite the water
lover. Camping is available by reservation on 50 state-owned islands.
This large lake, 32 miles long, might best be explored by sea kayak
over the course of several days. Hiking on one of the islands or while
docked in an isolated bay can offer a day of great enjoyment and
discovery.
Don't forget, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and paddle boats are
free at Green Mansions. Our beach at Tripp Lake is open daily, weather
permitting. The Boat Attendant will check you out with complimentary
life vests for a maximum of two hours per trip. Explore the wildlife
and wetlands around the lake or fish for trout, bass and pike. Early
morning or late afternoon trips can also be arranged with the
Attendant.
Paddle open stretches of water early in the
morning when the water is calm and the traffic is light. Get a weather
radio and keep track of the conditions and wind direction so you can
use both to your advantage. Never go out on the water at dusk or after
dark. Wear your life vest at all times. And, most of all, have fun and
enjoy the ride!
Contact the outfitters for more information. Call or stop in Green
Mansions office for a map of Canoe Access Sites on the Hudson and
Schroon Rivers. More info:
